Minimum Dimensions: 800x600

Use appropriate color mode for intended use

Thought Process

Many people would think of an illustration as one that appears cartoon-like. As this could be challenging to create, I wanted to truly challenge myself and create an object that would appear realistic (hopefully you think that was accomplished, I think so). With approximately 500 paths, I am really excited with how this turned out.

Guidelines

Minimum Dimensions: 800x600

Use a minimum of four images (images only, no cartoons, drawings, etc.

Choose a theme that isn't too personal

Thought Process

I wanted to stay away from the typical "placing rectangular images together" and focus on learning and utilizing Photoshop's tools. Thus, I created a Collage of images that were masked and blended together to help show the transition of transportation over time. The images were modified in a non-destructive manner, so that at any time I need to revisit the collage to make any necessary changes, it's easy to do so.

Guidelines

Create two logos, each with a color and b&w version

No clipart or bitmaps

Thought Process

Something to truly learn from creating logos is, "Keep it Simple". The logo for Iconic Motion was created with the thought of, "What will look good on apparel?". The IM could become a very iconic logo in it's particular industry, like Nike's Swoosh or Target's Red Target. The logo for 5-All Tennis Academy was created in a way that it could be painted on a tennis court utilizing only one color, providing marketing versatility. I created the font using a pen tablet, as it allows the designer to provide the client with a unique font.

Guidelines

Create all elements in Photoshop, no clip art or pre-fab graphics

Create an Index and Content page

Although a full "build out" is not required, approach it with the assumption that it could be built out if necessary

Thought Process

I wanted to create an appealing and functional "splash" page for the site, but made sure that the user would quickly know where they're at and what they could find within the site, as well as contact info so they wouldn't feel discouraged from entering the site to have to find it. The layout is simple with implied lines and plenty of "white space" to create a clean look.

Guidelines

Design with both user and site goals in mind

Must contain at least 5 pages with a functional web form

All HTML and CSS must be valid

All images must be optimized effectively, page weight not to exceed 85kb

Thought Process

In short, Project Gutenberg is an online site to read and download free books. The current site is very disorganized, making it hard for the user to find anything. My goal was to make it organized and to also create a visual appeal for those who aren't text only readers, but are visually stimulated.

Guidelines

In addition to previous site's requirements:

Create first fully functional site

Web form must use custom validation for required fields and data integrity

Form confirmation page should "echo" submitted fields back to user

Thought Process

Since a professional CPA's site shouldn't have a "designer" background, I created a unique banner for each of the pages to help create some visual appeal. I believe that this type of design offers a professional feel without the rigidness of most professional conservative sites.

Apparel Site

Guidelines

In addition to previous site's requirements:

Must contain some Flash content appropriate for the site's audience

Must have a minimum of one functional form, with validation

Thought Process

The apparel site was a group project, in which our target audience were "professionals". My particular group had three members in which each member had specific duties. The concept for the site was created as a group. Once that was accomplished, I created the layout and HTML/CSS template for the site and the Flash ad on the index page. Altogether, the group worked very well with each other and produced a great site.

Guidelines

Dimensions: 320x240; Length: 10-30 Seconds

Single product, no multiples, no services

Must utilize a sound track; background music, voiceover or both

Must utilize images, shapes and text

Must have at least one hyperlink that links to an external site

Thought Process

My thought process on this one went everywhere since I was excited to finally get to a true flash project. Without going overboard, I wanted to pack it with as much action as possible that matches the audience's style of riding hard.

About Me

Since wrapping up Kennesaw's KIP Web Design program, I have slowly phased out my home inspection business and am currently a freelance web designer. I've mainly been working with BKV, a direct marketing and advertising agency. Designing aside, I'm usually trying to figure out the best way to raise our new addition! When I'm not doing that, I'm either hiking, running or riding trails or I'm on the tennis courts. I love me some freakin' cookies!

About This Site

Keeping things simple! You should find that this site is super easy to navigate. In fact, this site is only one page...other than my resume. I'm currently redesigning this site and will hopefully have it completed soon (this being written on 1/18/2010) with more recent projects. Did I already tell you that I freakin' love cookies?
